Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Aomugenhudug, Sonid Left Banner, Inner Mongolia.. It was named by the No. 1 Inner Mongolian Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1973.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone. The middle and lower parts of the formation are dominated by clastic rocks, and limestone is seen in the upper part. At Aomugenhudug, it is composed of yellow-brown feldspar-rich quartzose sandstone, gray-green metamorphic calcareous greywacke, siltstone, quartzose sandstone, green-gray marl, oolitic limestone, etc. 1155 m thick; the top unknown.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Ulanhudug Fm

Upper contact

Top unknown. Regionally, next younger unit is the Benbatu Fm

Regional extent

Mainly distributed along Sailinmule to Alatate on the border of the Sonid Left Banner and Sonid Right Banner, Inner Mongolia in an E-W extension, with scattered distribution in Gouhudug of Abag Banner and in Baoerhaolai of Siziwang Banner

Fossils

The lower part contains the Grandispirifer mylkensis (brachiopod)−Sugiyamella carbonarium (Coral) assemblage, including: corals Siphonophyllum cf. cylindrica, Amygdalophyllum etheridgei, Arachnolasma sinensis and Lithostrotion stavenllense; Brachiopod Syringothyris cf. cuspidata, bryozoans, etc.
